What is Tasmar (tolcapone)?

When used with carbidopa and levodopa (Atamet, Parcopa, Sinemet), tolcapone increases levels of levodopa in the body.

Tolcapone is used together with carbidopa and levodopa to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease, such as stiffness, tremors, muscle spasms, and poor muscle control.

This medication is usually reserved for use only in people who have used carbidopa and levodopa without success in treating their Parkinson's disease.

Tolcapone is usually given to people who are already taking carbidopa and levodopa but have not had successful treatment of symptoms.

Tolcapone may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What is the most important information I should know about Tasmar (tolcapone)?

You should not use this medication if you are allergic to tolcapone, if you have liver disease, or if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days.

Serious or fatal side effects on the liver have occurred in some people taking this medication. You may be required to read and sign a Patient Consent form before you get a prescription for tolcapone.

Call your doctor at once if you have nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes). Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects of tolcapone. Cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety can add to sleepiness caused by tolcapone. Tell your doctor if you regularly use any of these other medicines. Do not stop using tolcapone suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when you stop using tolcapone.

You may have increased sexual urges, unusual urges to gamble, or other intense urges while taking this medication. Talk with your doctor if you believe you have any intense or unusual urges while taking tolcapone.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Tasmar (tolcapone)?

You should not use this medication if you are allergic to tolcapone, or if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days.

You may have increased sexual urges, unusual urges to gamble, or other intense urges while taking tolcapone. It is not known whether the medicine actually causes this effect. Talk with your doctor if you believe you have any intense or unusual urges while taking tolcapone.

Tolcapone may cause hallucinations (the sensation of hearing or seeing something that is not there), most commonly among elderly people. Call your doctor if you experience hallucinations.

Some people taking Parkinson's disease medications have developed skin cancer (melanoma). However, people with Parkinson's disease may have a higher risk of melanoma. Talk to your doctor about this risk and what skin symptoms to watch for. You may need to have regular skin exams.

FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether tolcapone will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication.. It is not known whether tolcapone passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not take tolcapone without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How should I take Tasmar (tolcapone)?

Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

Tolcapone must be taken together with carbidopa and levodopa. Tolcapone used alone will not treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results.

Tolcapone is usually taken three times a day. The first dose is taken with your first daily dose of carbidopa and levodopa. The second and third doses of tolcapone are taken 6 and 12 hours later.

Tolcapone may be taken with or without food.

To be sure this medicine is not causing harmful effects, your blood will need to be tested often. Your liver and kidney function may also need to be tested. Visit your doctor regularly.

Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 3 weeks of using tolcapone.

Do not stop using tolcapone suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when you stop using tolcapone. Store at room temperature in a tightly closed container, away from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

Overdose symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

What should I avoid while taking Tasmar (tolcapone)?

Tolcapone may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.

Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall.

Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects of tolcapone.

Tasmar (tolcapone) side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

What is Targretin Topical (bexarotene topical)?

The exact way bexarotene works is unknown, but it is believed to inhibit the growth of tumor cells.

Bexarotene topical is used to treat skin lesions of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) (Stage 1A and 1B) in patients who have not responded to or not tolerated other therapies.

Bexarotene topical may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

What is the most important information I should know about Targretin Topical (bexarotene topical)?

Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight or artificial ultraviolet light (e.g. sunlamps). Bexarotene topical may increase the sensitivity of your skin to sunlight. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when exposure to the sun is unavoidable. Do not use bexarotene topical if you are pregnant or if you could become pregnant. Bexarotene topical is in the FDA pregnancy category X. This means that bexarotene topical will cause birth defects in an unborn baby. You must take a pregnancy test and have negative results within one week before starting treatment with bexarotene topical, and a pregnancy test should be repeated monthly during treatment. Bexarotene topical should be started on the second or third day of a normal menstrual period. Also, you will need to use two reliable forms of birth control at the same time for one month before starting treatment with bexarotene topical, during treatment with bexarotene topical, and for at least 1 month following the end of your treatment. If you become pregnant, stop using birth control, or miss your menstrual period, immediately stop using bexarotene topical and notify your doctor. Men using bexarotene topical with sexual partners who are pregnant, possibly pregnant, or who could become pregnant, must use condoms during sexual intercourse while using bexarotene topical and for at least one month after the last dose of bexarotene topical.

Who should not use Targretin Topical (bexarotene topical)?

Do not use bexarotene topical without first talking to your doctor if you are allergic to other retinoids such as isotretinoin (Accutane), acitretin (Soriatane), etretinate (Tegison), or tretinoin (Vesinoid). Before using bexarotene topical, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease. You may not be able to use bexarotene topical, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment. Do not use bexarotene topical if you are pregnant or if you could become pregnant. Bexarotene topical is in the FDA pregnancy category X. This means that bexarotene topical will cause birth defects in an unborn baby. You must take a pregnancy test and have negative results within one week before starting treatment with bexarotene topical, and a pregnancy test should be repeated monthly during treatment. How should I use Targretin Topical (bexarotene topical)?

Use bexarotene topical exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these instructions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.

Wash your hands with soap and water before and after applying this medication.

Apply enough gel to cover the affected area with a generous coating. Proper application should leave some gel visible on the surface of the lesion. Allow the gel to dry for 5 to 10 minutes before covering with clothing.

Do not use bandages, dressings, or other coverings, other than loose clothing, that block the flow of air to the treated area. Do not apply bexarotene topical to unaffected skin. In addition, do not apply the gel near the eyes, mouth, nostrils, lips, vagina, tip of the penis, rectum, or anus. If you get medication on any of these areas, rinse it off with water.

Mild, non-deodorant soap is recommended for bathing or showering. Wait for 20 minutes after bathing or showering before applying bexarotene topical. Wait for at least 3 hours after applying bexarotene topical before bathing, showering, or swimming.

Bexarotene topical is initially applied once every other day for the first week. The application frequency is then usually increased at weekly intervals to once daily, then three times daily, and finally four times daily according to how well treatment is tolerated. If the affected area becomes irritated, the frequency of application can be reduced. If severe irritation occurs, application can be temporarily stopped for a few days until the irritation is reduced. Follow your doctor's instructions.

Avoid scratching the treated areas.

It may take many weeks of treatment to see the effects of this drug. Do not stop using bexarotene topical if you do not see results immediately. Treatment with bexarotene topical should continue for as long as beneficial effects are being obtained.

Store bexarotene topical at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed application and apply only the next regularly scheduled dose.Do Notapply a double dose of this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

What happens if I overdose?

An overdose of this medication is unlikely to occur. If you do suspect an overdose, or if bexarotene topical has been ingested, call an emergency room or poison control center near you.

What should I avoid while using Targretin Topical (bexarotene topical)?

Avoid using other topical products on the affected area at the same time as bexarotene topical unless otherwise directed by your doctor. These products may interfere with the effects or absorption of bexarotene topical.

The Targretin Topical gel brand of bexarotene topical contains alcohol and should be kept away from open flames.

Targretin Topical (bexarotene topical) side effects

Serious side effects are not likely to occur. Stop using bexarotene topical and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (shortness of breath; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, face, or tongue; or hives).

You may experience some redness, itching, warmth, swelling, burning, scaling, or other irritation while you are using bexarotene topical. If these side effects are excessive, talk to your doctor. Your doctor may prescribe less frequent applications of bexarotene topical.

Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Vitamin A my increase side effects when using bexarotene topical. Limit your use of vitamin A supplements to not more than 15, 000 units (IU) a day.

What is docetaxel?

Docetaxel is a cancer medication that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body.

Docetaxel is used to treat breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, stomach cancer, and head/neck cancer.

What is the most important information I should know about docetaxel?

Do not use docetaxel if you are pregnant. It could harm the unborn baby. You should not use this medication if you are allergic to docetaxel, or to drugs made with polysorbate 80.

Before you receive docetaxel, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, heart disease, congestive heart failure, or fluid retention or swelling problems.

You may need to take a steroid medicine to help prevent certain side effects of docetaxel. Try not to miss any doses of your steroid medication.

Docetaxel is injected into a vein through an IV. You will receive this injection in a clinic or hospital setting. Docetaxel must be given slowly, and the IV infusion can take up to 1 hour to complete. You may receive other cancer medicines at the same time.

Docetaxel is usually given once every 3 weeks, depending on the type of cancer being treated. Follow your doctor's instructions.

You may need to take a steroid medicine for a few days before your docetaxel injection. This may help prevent certain side effects of docetaxel. Try not to miss any doses of your steroid medication.

Tell your caregivers if you feel any burning, pain, or swelling around the IV needle when docetaxel is injected.

Docetaxel can be harmful if it gets on your skin during an IV infusion. If this happens, wash right away with soap and water.

Docetaxel can lower blood cells that help your body fight infections. This can make it easier for you to bleed from an injury or get sick from being around others who are ill.

To make sure this medication is helping your condition and not causing harmful effects, your blood will need to be tested often. Your cancer treatments may be delayed based on the results of these tests. Do not miss any follow-up visits to your doctor.

Theomar GG Liquid

Theomar GG Liquid is used for:

Preventing and treating symptoms and blockage of airway due to asthma or other lung diseases such as emphysema or bronchitis. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Theomar GG Liquid is a combination xanthine derivative and expectorant. The xanthine derivative works by relaxing the smooth muscle surrounding the bronchial tubes (air passages) of the lungs, allowing the tubes to widen, and making breathing easier. Theomar GG Liquid improves contraction of the diaphragm (the major breathing muscle). The expectorant works by increasing respiratory secretions and loosening mucus in the airways.

Do NOT use Theomar GG Liquid if:

• you are allergic to any ingredient in Theomar GG Liquid (including ethylenediamine), similar medicines (eg, aminophylline), or xanthines (eg, caffeine, chocolate)


• you are using large amounts of other products that contain xanthine (such as chocolate or caffeinated drinks)


• you have ulcers or a seizure disorder for which you are not taking medicine


• you are taking dipyridamole intravenously (IV), halothane, or St. John's wort

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Theomar GG Liquid:

Some medical conditions may interact with Theomar GG Liquid. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

• if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding


• if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement


• if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances


• if you have heart problems (eg, congestive heart failure, cor pulmonale), an irregular heartbeat, a history of ulcers, fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema), liver problems, fever, viral infection, severe infection (eg, blood infection), thyroid problems, cystic fibrosis, increased acid levels in the body, brain or nerve problems, or seizures (eg, epilepsy)


• if you are in shock


• if you smoke, are stopping or starting smoking, or are exposed to the smoke from cigarettes or marijuana


• if you are in the last 3 months of pregnancy

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Theomar GG Liquid. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

• Aminoglutethimide, barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), carbamazepine, hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), isoproterenol, moricizine, propafenone, rifampin, St. John's wort, or sulfinpyrazone because they may decrease Theomar GG Liquid's effectiveness


• Allopurinol, cimetidine, disulfiram, enoxacin, estrogen, fluvoxamine, interferon alpha-a, macrolide antibiotics (eg, clarithromycin, erythromycin), methotrexate, mexiletine, oral contraceptives (birth control pills), pentoxifylline, quinolone antibiotics (eg, ciprofloxacin), tacrine, thiabendazole, ticlopidine, troleandomycin, verapamil, viloxazine, or zileuton because they may increase the risk of Theomar GG Liquid's side effects


• Ephedrine because the risk of side effects such as nausea, nervousness, and trouble sleeping may be increased


• Halothane because the risk of side effects such as irregular heartbeat may be increased


• Ketamine because the risk of seizures may be increased


• Adenosine, benzodiazepines (eg, diazepam, lorazepam), dipyridamole IV, lithium, midazolam, or nondepolarizing muscle relaxants (eg, pancuronium) because their effectiveness may be decreased by Theomar GG Liquid

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Theomar GG Liquid may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Theomar GG Liquid:

Use Theomar GG Liquid as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

• Some foods may change the effectiveness or increase the side effects of Theomar GG Liquid. Talk to your doctor about how you should take Theomar GG Liquid with regard to food. Do not suddenly change your diet or eating habits without first checking with your doctor.


• Use a measuring device marked for medicine dosing. Ask your pharmacist for help if you are unsure of how to measure your dose.


• Take Theomar GG Liquid at evenly spaced times throughout the day. Taking Theomar GG Liquid at the same time each day will help you remember to take it. Contact your doctor with any questions or concerns about the best way to take Theomar GG Liquid.


• If you miss a dose of Theomar GG Liquid, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Theomar GG Liquid.

Important safety information:

• Use of alcohol may increase the risk of side effects of Theomar GG Liquid. Talk to your doctor before drinking alcohol while you are taking Theomar GG Liquid.


• Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Theomar GG Liquid before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.


• Carry an ID card at all times that says you take Theomar GG Liquid.


• Avoid large amounts of food or drink that have caffeine (eg, coffee, tea, cocoa, cola, chocolate).


• Notify your doctor if you develop a new illness, especially if it is accompanied by fever; if a chronic illness becomes worse; if you start or stop smoking cigarettes or marijuana; or if another doctor prescribes a new medication or tells you to stop using a medication that you have already been taking.


• Theomar GG Liquid will not stop an asthma attack once one has started. Be sure to always carry appropriate rescue medicine (eg, bronchodilator inhaler) with you in case of an asthma attack.


• If you have more than one doctor, be sure to tell each of your doctors that you are taking Theomar GG Liquid.


• Diabetes patients - Theomar GG Liquid may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine.


• Lab tests, including blood theophylline levels, may be performed while you use Theomar GG Liquid. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.


• Use Theomar GG Liquid with caution in the ELDERLY; they may be more sensitive to its effects.


• Caution is advised when using Theomar GG Liquid in CHILDREN, especially newborns with kidney problems; they may be more sensitive to its effects.


• PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Theomar GG Liquid while you are pregnant. Theomar GG Liquid is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Theomar GG Liquid, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Theomar GG Liquid:

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Mild and temporary changes in behavior; temporary increased urination.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); confusion; diarrhea; dizziness; fast breathing; heart rhythm problems or irregular heartbeats; nausea; persistent headache; seizures; sleeplessness; tremors; vomiting.

If OVERDOSE is suspected:

Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center, or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include agitation; chest pain; confusion; decreased urination; fast or irregular heartbeat; headache; increased thirst; irritability; loss of appetite; muscle pain or tenderness; nausea; nervousness; persistent increased urination; restlessness; seizures; severe or persistent diarrhea; stomach pain; tremors or twitching; vomiting, especially of blood.

Proper storage of Theomar GG Liquid:

Store Theomar GG Liquid at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), in tightly closed container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Do not refrigerate. Keep Theomar GG Liquid out of the reach of children and away from pets.
